Mr Ken Atsuete has been killed in Rivers state

– Rivers state police command has vowed to fish out the killers of the prominent lawyer
Some unknown gunmen have reportedly killed a popular Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Mr Ken Atsuete.
The Punch reports that the incident took place last night, August 29 at 8pm.
Mr Atsuete was murdered at his residence in Port Harcourt.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed Atsuete’s residence, cornered him and shot him several times.
Atsuete was one of the counsels for the former chairman of the Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Ojukaye Flag Amachree, before he was assassinated.
He was one of the speakers at the just concluded conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, held in Port Harcourt.
A close confidant of the deceased and human rights activist, Mr Anyakwe Nsirimovu, expressed shock over the incident, adding that
“Ken Atsuete’s lifeless body is currently lying at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital mortuary” .
Meanwhile, the Rivers police command said on Monday that the killers of Port Harcourt-based human rights lawyer, Mr Ken Atsuwete, would be brought to justice.
The deceased was one of the lawyers handling a case for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
Nnamdi Omoni, a DSP, and Public Relations Officer of the command, told a news conference in Port Harcourt that Atsuwete was killed at 6.00am on Monday.
He said that the police had commenced investigation into the incident and would ensure that the killers were arrested and prosecuted.
Omoni described the incident as “ pure assassination”.

According to him, the lawyer had contacted the police to inform them that there was kidnapping in his area, at Umuogba,Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government of Rivers.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that Atsuwete might have been shot in his car after struggling with the armed men.
“The killers used Atsuwete`s car to escape, abandoned it, ran into another car and escaped with it.
“ This is an unfortunate thing that has happened. His body has been deposited at the mortuary and police investigation has commenced.
“ Ken was the voice of the voiceless. The killers would be brought to justice soon,” Omoni said.
